How much will it cost to repair my Mavica?   ^ Top

That depends a lot on how far off the floor it fell, whether it was concrete or carpet, and whether it sunk to the bottom of the swimming pool, or just got splashed.

Seriously though, you can find our labor rates here, so the only question would be the cost of parts. Once your unit is on the bench, we'll be able to determine just that, and contact you via e-mail with all of the costs involved, and how long your unit's stay with us, will be.

MVC-FDxx Series (Floppy Disk Mavica's):

If your camera is displaying Disk Error, C:13:01, C:32:01, and you've tried to format a new disk (using your computer, w/ FULL format option) with no success, then you may need a new floppy drive installed (FDD). Cost of the drive is $90.00, with labor at $60.00, for a total repair of $150.00 on most models*.

*Cost to replace the floppy drive in models MVC-FD91, MVC-FD95 and MVC-FD97 is at $165.00

MVC-CDxxx Series (CD-R Mavica's):

If your camera is displaying Disk Error, C:13:01, or you hear a clicking sound, and have tried a new CD-R disk with no success, then the entire laser/ motor assembly needs to either be repaired at a cost of $180.00, or replaced at a cost of $289.00. We'll be able to determine which, once your unit is on the bench. No work is performed, without your apporval.

For cameras or camcorders damaged by liquid or water, the estimate fee is $50.00, and is applied to the cost of repair.

If your unit did get wet, it's wise to remove the battery, and avoid powering it on.

If your camera or camcorder was submerged for any length of time, it's over, time to go shopping. If the lens has water spots inside - it's over, time to go shopping. If water is dripping out from the inside of your unit, it's over, time to go shopping. If your camcorder or camera was LIGHTLY splashed or sprinkled with water then there MAY be a chance that we can help you.

One word, YES! Please click here to visit our Sony Cybershot page.

Yeah, but wont it cost allot to ship my Mavica to you?  ^ Top

Using Priority Mail, you can ship your camera to our repair department, from anywhere in the U.S., for around $5.00.

Of course, tacking on a little insurance is a good thing, but you needn’t bother with delivery confirmation, certified mail, or other services that simply waste your hard earned money.  Remember, your camera is broken, and it’s not new.  For most cameras, a hundred dollars of insurance is all that’s needed.    Once your repaired camera is ready for the return trip home, we make sure the camera is insured for what it’s worth.

Shipping insurance covers the value of the camera in its present condition, NOT what a brand new replacement camera costs.    If you need to make an insurance claim, all you’re entitled to is what the camera was worth, at the time of loss, and nothing more.

How much do you charge for estimates?  ^ Top

$30.00. A modest sum, wouldn't you agree? The estimate fee is applied to the cost of repair. That's fair, isn't it?

Why don't you offer free estimates?  ^ Top

One word, gimmick.  Do you really think that repair shops that offer free estimates are going to spend one minute on your camera trying to figure out it's problem?  No way!  They simply 'shoot' you a price, and hope the price they quote you will cover the cost of parts and leave room for plenty of profit. This works for them if it's an easy repair, but bad for you if your unit was one of the 'easy' ones, and you were charged too much money for the repair. Simple to understand, yes?

How much do you charge for return shipping?  ^ Top

We generally use UPS to do all of our shipping.  Their rates are a little higher than Priority Mail, but the cost of insurance is much less than that of the USPS.  On average, return shipping with insurance costs $8.00.  We only tack on a buck for the new box, bubble bag, and packing material. For the heavier, more expensive cameras, return shipping costs $10.00. Professional cameras can cost as much as $16.00 for return shipping, depending upon both their weight, and value.
