These decks were purpose-built — built like tanks, and made to last. Most people use them to transfer tapes to DVD or import them into a computer, long after the camcorder that shot them is gone.
The electronics don’t have many failures: nearly 98% of what goes wrong is mechanical. These decks use the same mechanism as the camcorders — which means they wear the same way, and it means we know them inside and out.
